In the history of Uganda, December 12th has been the busiest Tuesday ever. It is the day that one of Uganda’s leading Pentecostal church leaders, Aloysius Bugingo, and his fiancee, Suzan Makula finally achieved the day they have always dreamt of.
After breaking away, from his wife, Teddy Naluswa, Bugingo decided to let the whole world know that he was not just leaving behind his former family but was deeply in love with someone else. The new lover turned out to be Suzan Makula: one of his employees and sheep.
Despite so much condemnation and rebuke from fellow church leaders, members, and the public in general, Bugingo refused to take his wife back and instead proposed to Susan Makula.
A week ago, Susan Makula took Bugingo to her parents’ house in Kyebando to officially introduce him to her parents. This is the first cultural ceremony in Uganda when one is intending to marry. This ceremony is called Kukyala and is meant to lay the ground for negotiations on dowry and further marriage arrangements. It should be noted, however, that Bugingo’s official wife, Teddy Naluswa refused to sign divorce papers that would make him a free man. In fact, Teddy went to court to help her regain a grip on her marriage and although the case has not yet come to a conclusion, Bugingo was barred from marrying anyone else in the meantime. But the love-stricken pastor is deeply in love that he is blinded to any consequences.
This week, the overly excited pastor and his fiancee finally had a cultural wedding ceremony locally known as Kwanjula. Pastor Aloysius Bugingo and Suzan Makula have been the talk of the town and it has left many Ugandans either happy or angrier. Many are still wondering as to whether a legally married man is allowed by Ugandan law to marry another woman without being divorced from the former. The beautifully designed introduction took place in Bwerenga at one of Makula’s relatives.
Bugingo and Makula’s introduction was attended by various celebrities, government officials, as well as fellow businessmen and employees.
Suzan looked flawless and exceedingly gorgeous in her gomesis especially the yellow gomesi that was embellished with blue diamond stones. She also looked amazing in all the other gomesis and Mishana she wore all throughout the function. Bugingo on the other hand wore a white Kinyarwanda cultural wear, and so did most of his entourage.
