I have interacted with hundreds of people in search of wedding venues in and around Kampala. Obviously, many are always looking for venues that allow clients to bring in their food and drinks.
This concern makes perfect sense, on a wedding budget, food and drinks usually account for over fifty percent of the total wedding or introduction budget.
In Uganda, what makes a perfect party is not that lavish decor or the couple’s pricey attire – sorry bride, it’s not your lovely cinderella gown but it matters a lot too. In fact, it’s not even the venue although that’s what this post is about.
What makes a memorable Ugandan wedding is precisely the food and drinks. And as blunt as this may sound, people will remember you depending on how you make them feel- and in this case, if they drink themselves silly and eat as much as they want, yours will be their best wedding. Ever!
This explains why most people prefer wedding and introduction venues that allow people to bring in their caterers and drinks. Especially when they are hosting huge numbers of guests.
That said, let me cut to the chase and give you a list of a few venues in and around Kampala that will allow you to bring in your food and drinks. Please note that this list is random and is not in any kind of order;
To start off is this magnificent 12-bedroom double storey mansion located in Bwerenga, along Kampala – Entebbe road. I know you are probably thinking, “That sounds far” but look, people travel to Lira, Masaka, Mbarara for introductions or weddings but Victoria Estate is just 23 KM from Kampala city centre (just after Kisubi). In fact, people travel from Entebbe to Kampala (35km) to work every day.
Of all the venues we have encountered in our quest to find the best wedding and introduction venues, this is by far the best, especially for an introduction (kwanjula or kuhingira) or kukyala. That’s precisely because this beautiful new-looking catered-for mansion is in a true home setting. It is a complete storeyed house with very beautiful furniture, beds, care-takers, and most importantly a beautiful green garden that can comfortably seat over 800 people.
But here’s the best part; the owner lets you use the entire mansion (including the main house and the guest house) for an entire weekend – That is Friday to Sunday. You could also rent it for an entire week to avoid moving back and forth prior to your big day (That depends on availability though). Since it has about 6 bedrooms, you’ll have the comfort of staying close to your squad or relatives before and after the ceremony. This basically means you can turn this into your home.
Additionally, this residence is completely fenced off and there’s security 24hours 7 days a week plus ample and secure parking space.
The estate is a private beach surrounded by Lake Victoria and beautiful greenery forest cover. However, they have over 10 meticulously landscaped gardens that you can use for your reception. If you want a destination wedding within budget, this would be the ideal option.
The estate has very attractive packages, 5 eco-lodge rooms, a swimming pool and so much more. Although they have wedding packages that include food and drinks, you can opt to bring your own food and drinks and only pay for the venue.
The estate is located 27km from Kampala city centre and 19 km from Victoria Mall Entebbe. The Estate and Victoria estate are both located in Bwerenga, along Kampala- Entebbe road.
At the resort, rooms include a wardrobe. Featuring a private bathroom with a shower and free toiletries, rooms at The Estate e Bwerenga also offers a lake view and while there, you’ll come across monkeys and a few bird species. At the accommodation, each room comes with a seating area.
If you are staying longer, some of the activities you can enjoy at the estate include cycling, canoeing and horse riding.
If you want a venue around town, La Jolla might be just what you are looking for. La jolla is strategically located in Kisaasi, a 6km drive from the city centre.
4. Ruth Gardens
Ruth Gardens closely located close to La Jolla gardens, in Kisaasi.
For a long time, Seven Trees has been a top choice for many people hosting weddings and introductions in Kampala. Although Seven Trees is pricey (11m), its strategic location makes them a top priority. Located in the centre of Kampala city (Kololo) , just below the Kololo airstrip, Seven trees gardens is a top priority for many couples and cooperate companies.
This is located on Mutungo hill along the Kampala – Luira road. It is a three-story house with a garden capable of seating about 600 people.
7. Jahazi Pier
Many people love the idea of hosting their events at Kingdom Kampala but we’ll use this post to point out a few things you need to know before you book with them; 1) They do not have gardens or a hotel except for the few restaurants on the ground floor. The lack of a hotel is a good thing because you are able to bring in your food and drinks; 2). The dazzling building you’ve seen is actually a commercial office block. That said, available space for events is on the 5th floor. However, that shouldn’t worry you as Kingdom Kampala has enough elevators (lifts) to carry people and equipment back and forth.
12. Lubowa gardens
13. Rest Gardens
14. Sunrise Beach, Bunga
15. Kyanja gardens
16. MTAC Gardens
17. UMA showgrounds
